LiverpoolLiverpool is a city and metropolitan borough of Merseyside, England, along the eastern side of the Mersey Estuary.

Liverpool's historic position as one of the most important trading ports in the world has meant that over time many grand buildings have been constructed in the city as headquarters for shipping firms, insurance companies, banks and other large firms. The great wealth this brought, then allowed for the development of grand civic buildings, which were designed to allow the local administrators to 'run the city with pride'.

One of the most famous locations in Liverpool is the Pier Head, renowned for the trio of buildings - the Royal Liver Building, the Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building - which sit upon it. Collectively referred to as the Three Graces, these buildings stand as a ... Read more »

Bristol is a city, unitary authority area and ceremonial county in South West England, 105 miles west of London, and 24 miles east of Cardiff.

Bristol is the largest centre of culture, employment and education in the region. Its prosperity has been linked with the sea since its earliest days. The commercial Port of Bristol was originally in the city centre before being moved to the Severn Estuary at Avonmouth; Royal Portbury Dock is on the western edge of the city boundary. In more recent years the economy has depended on the creative media, electronics and aerospace industries, and the city centre docks have been regenerated as a centre ... Read more »

BirminghamBirmingham's development as a commercial town was originally based around its market for agricultural produce, established by royal charter in 1166. Despite the industrialisation of subsequent centuries this role has been retained, and the Birmingham Wholesale Markets remain the largest combined wholesale food markets in the country, selling meat, fish, fruit, vegetables and flowers and supplying fresh produce to restaurateurs and independent retailers as far as 100 miles away.

Birmingham is the only English city outside London to have three Michelin starred restaurants: Simpson's in Edgbaston, Turners in Harborne and Purnell's in the city centre.

Birmingham based breweries included Ansells, Davenports and Mitchells & Butlers. Aston Manor Brewery is currently the only brewery of ... Read more »

Pizza toppingsTo list all toppings for pizza is impossible as the list is only restricted to the restrictions imposed by your imagination. Even popular pizza toppings are not easy to categorize when the Americans prefer pepperoni and the Japanese favour squid.

Pizza toppings are normally placed upon a pizza in a specific order, not because it is tidy but because the pizza sauce keeps the pizza dough moist, the cheese then provides a bed for the toppings to rest on and they do not dry out or fall off as the pizza slice is held. More cheese is added to keep the dough moist and the garnish is not cooked so it is applied last after baking. The following list is the traditional order:

Indian FoodChoose home-made Indian dishes like a light chicken or fish curry, baked tandoori meal (this you can order in), something steamed or something stir-fried (my first book Indian Every Day is full of healthy Indian recipes). After the meaty indulgence of Christmas and its leftovers, I would even suggest eating a few vegetarian meals to give your digestive tract a break I propose opting for low GI ingredients that will keep you fuller for longer so a bowl of lentils or beans with brown rice would be ideal.

Even if you order food online from local food takeaways - there's always an option to specify what you want to be included in your dishes.

Lentils are the cornerstone of Indian food as they are grown in ... Read more »

PizzaPizza and healthy - hold your thoughts until you've read this. Think pizza takeaways can’t be part of a healthy diet? Well think again! It is possible to have a healthy pizza dinner that is both low in saturated fat and loaded with veggies—and even fruit! Boost the fiber content of your meal by 50% simply by using whole-wheat pizza dough, which is widely available in supermarkets (check the label and avoid those that contain trans fats). Or make our Whole-Wheat Pizza Dough, which comes together in a snap. Substituting low-fat mozzarella for regular cheese lowers saturated fat and cholesterol. Then pile on the veggies for extra fiber and nutrients. And don’t forget the fruit—pears, apples and pinea ... Read more »

PizzaOne slice of pizza ordered at restaurants or food takeaways usually has at least 300 calories, so it doesn't take long to eat most of your day's calorie needs in one sitting. Interestingly, since it is also difficult for many people to estimate portion sizes for wedge-shaped foods, overeating can be very easy.

We don't typically think of pizza as a component of a healthy diet because it is high in total fat, saturated fat, sodium and calories. This is important to remember when planning family menus because high-fat diets lead to being overweight and obese.

If you do order a pizza at a restaurant or pizza takeaway, be sure to eat a healthy green salad first so that you feel fuller before indulging - and don't end up ... Read more »

Whether you buy your lunch from a sandwich shop, local takeaway, Chinese food, café, supermarket or work canteen, or make your own, the good news is that there are plenty of healthy lunch options available.

At the sandwich shop:

    * choose brown or wholemeal bread in thick slices or rolls, if available
    * go for a sandwich that contains salad and ask for extra, if you can
    * if the sandwich is made to order, you could ask for no butter, spread or mayonnaise, or just a small amount
    * if you do have mayonnaise, ask for a low-fat variety, if available

Low-fat sandwich fillings include lean meats such as ham, beef and turkey, chicken without the skin, tuna, hard-boiled egg, cottage cheese and low-fat cream cheese. Many hard cheeses are high in fat, but Edam, Emmental, Gr ... Read more »
